Bulldog Bound Perspectives: Mandy Collins

Meet Mandy Collins, a transfer student from Itawamba Community College. As a sophomore when she was deciding where to continue her education, Mandy craved an environment where she would have the opportunity to serve both the university and the community, make new friends and continue to excel academically. She found all that and more at State!

"MSU changed my life. I found my place here and got involved from the very first semester after I transferred. Not only have I made wonderful friends and memories through joining a sorority, but also by gaining the opportunity to serve as an Orientation Leader this past year. I'm so glad I was able to recruit other transfer students and share with them how special State is to me."

Academic Major Insight - Secondary Education

The College of Education's Secondary Education program is one of the most popular majors for transfer students. This program prepares teacher candidates to be licensed to teach middle and high school. Secondary Ed majors can choose a variety of subject areas including Biology, Chemistry, English/Language Arts, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Physical Education, Social Studies, and Speech Communications. Two of these concentrations (English and Social Studies) can also be pursued at MSU Meridian

The Cowbell Yell - Ring Responsibly

On August 31st the MSU Student Association hosted the 2nd annual Cowbell Yell. The pep rally took place in Davis Wade Stadium at 10 p.m. the night before the first home game of the season. The event, co-sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association and Athletics, includes the public debut of the team introduction video, as well as a celebration of the SEC’s “cowbell compromise” for home games.

“Cowbell Yell is the first opportunity for us to teach new students the traditions we hold dear, and to celebrate those traditions with the Bulldog family,” stated SA President Shelby Balius. “It's also our way of showing support for our hard-working football team and coaches to kickoff their next winning season on the eve of their first game.”

Off Campus Student Services

The Off-Campus Student Services Office serves as a connection for students, faculty, and staff to the off-campus community.  The OCSS Office is housed within the Dean of Students' Office and is part of the Division of Student Affairs at MSU. Their goal is to provide services and solutions that help students remain connected to Mississippi State and the surrounding community. Check out their website at www.ocss.msstate.edu.

How To Get Tagged:

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2012 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2013 will be your best route.

Questions about Getting Tagged? Email us at TAG@msstate.edu.

Sincerely,
