Bulldog Bound Perspectives - Adam Wade

Adam Wade
Adam Wade

Meet Adam Wade, a transfer student from Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. Adam grew up loving sports, being outdoors and cutting grass. Mississippi State University offered the perfect degree, for Adam, in Golf and Sports Turf Management.

"I grew up as an MSU fan my entire life, and I did not want to attend any other school. The people at this institution are my favorite part of the university. Students, staff and faculty are willing to help others reach their goals. I chose my major because it was a great fit. My major is all about putting people in the right jobs when they graduate because of the relationships each student builds with employers. The major lesson I have learned from MSU is to always get involved early with your major."

-Adam Wade, Pearl, MS

Academic Major Insight - Golf & Sports Turf Management

Turf Management
Turf Management

Mississippi State University's Department of Plant and Soil Sciences is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary department with academic programs in Agronomy, Horticulture and Weed Science. Their programs integrate teaching, research, and extension missions to find answers to some of the major issues facing agriculture today. The Golf and Sports Turf Management (GSTM) major offers students the opportunity to study plant and soil sciences for the culture of turf grass on golf courses and in sports facilities.

Students in the GSTM program are prepared for careers as golf superintendents at private, daily fee, and resort courses or as sports turf managers at city, school and professional sports turf facilities (i.e. football, baseball, soccer fields).

The curriculum of GSTM focuses on the application of sciences to the integrated management of turf grasses for athletic fields and golf courses. Central to this course of study is the dedication to conserve, maintain, and enhance our environment. MSU requires students to gain experiences via co-ops and internships to explore the GSTM field and create future connections with employers.

How To Get Tagged:

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2012 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2013 will be your best route.

Questions about Getting Tagged? Email us at TAG@msstate.edu.
