Bulldog Bound Perspectives - Dalton Mcmillen

Dalton Mcmillen
Dalton Mcmillen

Meet Dalton Mcmillen, a transfer student from Itawamba Community College in Fulton, MS. Dalton has always been fascinated by buildings, construction and the science behind how it all works together. Dalton transferred to Mississippi State in the Fall of 2012 to pursue a degree in Building Construction Science (BCS).

"I have been a bulldog since day one, and it so happens that State is one of the few schools in the nation that has my program of Building Construction Science. BCS teaches everything you need to know about how buildings are built, what's required to build them, and even all of the legal procedures that must take place. Don't be a hermit once you get to State. Get out and get to know your campus, the bulldog family and the programs MSU offers. State has awesome intramural sports, some great clubs/organizations, and many campus wide activities. There is something for everyone that comes here to State!"

-Dalton Mcmillen, Mantachie, MS

Building Construction Science

Mississippi State University's Building Construction Science (BCS) degree program is one of just two studio-based construction programs in the nation. The program is designed to prepare graduates for careers in construction or construction-related fields through an immersive, integrative, collaborative and transformational education.

The program strives to instill leadership qualities in its students via innovative construction education. Graduates will be able to manage both construction projects and also the business of construction. The curriculum is interdisciplinary and provides a broad knowledge base in business, engineering, and construction sciences.

Student Support Services

The Student Support Services (SSS) at Mississippi State University strives to provide services including advocacy, priority registration, testing services, counseling and guidance, career development, supplemental instruction, and tutoring. The SSS is composed of two entities: a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education TRIO programs and Disability Support Services.

The TRIO program at MSU will assist transfer students through a variety of services. Services include: Priority Registration, Direct Correspondence with Financial Aid Counselors, Tutoring, Study Skills, Career Exploration, Advising/Counseling, and Cultural Enhancements. Disability Support Services assist transfer students by continuing to provide academic accommodations that have previously been received at another institution and by encouraging communication with instructors regarding accommodations. Volunteer opportunities are available for students interested in helping Student Support Services.

How To Get Tagged

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2012 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2013 will be your best route.

Questions about Getting Tagged? Email us at TAG@msstate.edu.
