Bulldog Bound Perspectives - Glenn Crisler

Glenn Crisler
Glenn Crisler

Meet Glenn Crisler, a transfer student from Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS. Glenn chose to pursue a degree in Chemistry at MSU. He knew that MSU was a competitive university when it came to academics, but during the process of transferring he found that the staff and faculty made the world of difference in his decision.

"When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to become a chemist. One exceptional thing about the chemistry program at MSU is the exposure. Not only are the students exposed to theory, but we get an opportunity to run equipment and run our own experiments. At other universities, a chemistry student may never use certain pieces of lab equipment that a MSU student does use as an undergraduate. Also, MSU offers several Co-op opportunities to Chemistry students to prepare them for a career in our field. My best advice to all transfer students is to become involved. Keep track of things that could possibly go on your résumé. Become friends with your professors. They keep you updated on current and future opportunities that you otherwise may not be aware of. A transfer student coming to Mississippi State gains so much exposure beyond the classroom to a variety of things from different foods and culture, to new exercises, or new experiences."

-Glenn Crisler, Brookhaven, MS

Chadwick Lake Walking and Jogging Trail

Pumpkin Walk at Chadwick Lake Trail
Pumpkin Walk at Chadwick Lake Trail

The Chadwick Lake walking and jogging one-mile loop is the newest addition to the Mississippi State University Campus. On October 15, 2013 an official ceremony was followed by a Pumpkin Walk. The first 100 walkers to finish the loop received free pumpkins. The speakers at the event included MSU President Mark E. Keenum; Bill Kibler, vice president of student affairs; Michael Hogan, student association president; Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman; and Sheila Grogan, executive director of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation, which provided the track's grant funding.

The grant from Blue Cross & Blue Shield provided for construction of the walking track around the lake behind the Joe Frank Sanderson Center. Additionally, it provided a mobile kitchen unit for cooking and nutrition demonstrations, and it funded free health screenings for more than 1,500 participants. Check out more pictures of the ribbon-cutting ceremony at www.facebook.com/msstate.

How to get tagged:

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2013 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2014 will be your best route.

Questions about Getting Tagged? Email us at TAG@msstate.edu.
