Bulldog Bound Perspectives - Shadow Cox

Shadow Cox
Shadow Cox

Meet Shadow Cox, a transfer student from East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew, MS. Shadow chose to attend MSU to follow her lifelong dream of pursuing a degree in Interior Design.

"A career path in design has always been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I was always unsure about what university to attend after community college. Once I became a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, while still attending EMCC, and saw all the benefits of being at MSU as a PTK alumnus, the decision was easy. The studio classes in my program are fairly small and your class basically becomes a family. Throughout my time in the program, I have developed a deeper understanding of what parts of design I truly care about. Don't be afraid of the transition from a community college to Mississippi State. There is nothing to it. If anything, the time you spent at a community college makes your time at MSU more enjoyable."

-Shadow Cox, Weir, MS

Are you interested in design and functionality? The Interior Design program at MSU offers students a broad background in interior elements, materials, sources, and practical experience in the business of interior design. The program trains students to create functional, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing residential and commercial interior environments and is accredited by The Council for Interior Design Accreditation.

True Maroon Week

Cowbell Exhibit
Cowbell Exhibit

What is True Maroon? This week full of events highlights a special Mississippi State tradition each year. For the 2013-2014 school year, the cowbell was chosen. A t-shirt and video are designed for the honored tradition and both are debuted during Super Bulldog Weekend in the spring.

This year in honor of the cowbell the True Maroon week kicked off on Monday, November 11, 2013 with a cowbell exhibition and concluded on Saturday, November 16, 2013 with the dedication of the Bullring on campus before the home football game. A portion of all t-shirt sales benefits North Central Mississippi United Way, and one home game for each sport is designated as a True Maroon™ game. Fans wear their True Maroon™ shirts to "maroon-out" the stadium and Maroon Fridays on campus. Check out more about True Maroon Week and other MSU traditions here!

How to get tagged:

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2013 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2014 will be your best route.

Questions about Getting Tagged? Email us at TAG@msstate.edu.
