Bulldog Bound Perspective - Colt Wallace

Meet Colt Wallace, a transfer student from Itawamba Community College in Fulton, MS. Colt chose to attend Mississippi State because of the highly respected forestry program and the specialization in environmental conservation that is one of the best in the country.

"I am from a small town in Mississippi, and I have always known that I did not want the traditional work in an office eight hours a day, five days a week lifestyle. I would much rather be in the woods and actively helping protect our world's natural resources. My dad is a Mississippi State Alumni, so I was born and raised a Bulldog. I have always known that I would attend Mississippi State; it was just a matter of when. The best advice I would tell an incoming transfer is go to class. It is the key to being able to stay in this big Bulldog family and enjoy everything that Mississippi State has to offer you!"

- Colt Warren, Caledonia, MS

Academic Major Insight - Environmental Conservation

Summer Field Session
Summer Field Session

Interested in a degree that balances your love for the outdoors and your ability to tackle tough environmental issues? The undergraduate major in forestry with a concentration in environmental conservation will give you exactly that. The program is science-based and educates on contemporary environmental concerns within three emphasis areas: social, land, and science. The Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredits the program along with the College of Forestry at MSU. Graduates of the environmental conservation concentration are fully qualified as entry-level professionals and prepared for careers such as a Conservation Biologist, Urban Forest Specialist, Forest Ecologist, or even an Environmental Coordinator - just to name a few.

Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement

Alternative Spring Break Trip
Alternative Spring Break Trip

The Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) at Mississippi State University offers a wide range of opportunities for students to get involved on campus and within the community. The goal of the SLCE is to educate, enlighten, and empower tomorrow's leaders.

Transfer students can get involved with the Montgomery Leadership Program (MLP) and the Maroon Volunteer Center (MVC). MLP is a 2-year program for students who exhibit strong academic, leadership, and character traits. The MVC is a student-driven initiative that encourages and supports community involvement. Led by a team of students, staff, and volunteers, the center leads programs and events that allow the MSU community to utilize their skills while helping others.

Career Days

Are you looking for a job? As an MSU student or alumni, you can meet and talk with employer representatives from all over the country. In the Fall and Spring semesters, MSU hosts a career fair. Preregistration is not required. Participants register upon arrival and they are provided a list of employers that are in attendance.

Each year, over 175 employers and more than 1,200 students and alumni participate in career days. The career days are divided into two days. There is a business and non-technical day and an engineering and technical career day. For more information check out the Career Center website and Facebook for updates and opportunities.

How to get tagged:

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2013 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2014 will be your best route.
