Bulldog Bound Perspective - Heather Gray

Meet Heather Gray, a transfer student from Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. Heather chose to attend Mississippi State because she knew that agriculture was her calling and that Mississippi State was the school she wanted to call home.

"My decision for pursuing a degree in Animal Science is contributed to by my pride for my heritage, love for animals, and my passion to see this industry thrive. After taking the Introduction to Animal Science class here at MSU my first semester, I was immediately enthralled with the subject matter and the ways I would be able to make an impact in society with the knowledge I would acquire through this program. The level of involvement allowed by the students, the dedication of the faculty and staff, and the willingness and individual support of the teachers intrigued, as well as, impressed me greatly. For some, deciding to become a bulldog is a big step in itself. For others, like me, who are not so far from home, the bulldog blood already runs deep. No matter which category, I feel confident that Mississippi State has something to spark your interest and allow you to make this your home away from home."

- Heather Gray, Learned, MS

The Big Event

The Big Event is a one-day, student-run community service project that serves Starkville and the surrounding community. This year It will be held on Saturday March 29, 2014. Mississippi State held its first Big Event in 2009 and the program has grown tremendously since its first year. Last year, over 1,000 volunteers participated in the The Big Event. Students are able to sign up to volunteer as an individual, with a group of friends or with a campus organization. Volunteers work on a variety of service projects including repainting old buildings, picking up trash in the Cotton District, and providing assistance at the Humane Society. Each volunteer receives a T-shirt and breakfast at the morning kickoff ceremony. It is a great way to say thank you to the community.

How to get tagged:

Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.

If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2013 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.

If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.

If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2014 will be your best route.
