Bulldog Bound Perspective: Mark Hunt

Meet Mark Hunt, a transfer student from Itawamba Community College. Mark chose MSU for the great engineering program and his passion to be a Bulldog. He chose aerospace because it was the most challenging major that he could take that combined his love of mathematics and the natural sciences.

"Airplanes are amazing feats of human innovation that have only been around for a very short amount of time. The aerospace program offers a wide range of academic classes that help prepare modern aerospace engineers for the many different areas of the aviation industry. My classes offer great hands-on experience with the many labs required in the curriculum and the design teams associated with the department. For future bulldogs, remember to try to enjoy your time at State as much as you can. The days get busy quickly, and the time will just fly by."

-Mark Hunt, Iuka, MS

Major Insight: Aerospace Engineering

Are you interested in how airplanes fly or how rockets move? The Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering prepares students with expertise and training sought by industries nationwide. The program at MSU provides students with a fundamental engineering foundation based on a strong emphasis on mathematics and the physical and engineering sciences, and the ability to apply engineering fundamentals specifically to the field of Aerospace Engineering.

The curriculum focuses on the analysis, design, testing, and prediction of the performance of aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft, which operate in the atmosphere, outer space, or in a fluid medium. Students can participate in the cooperative education program to gain practical on-the-job work experience while still taking classes. Co-op students obtain a minimum of one year of related practical experience in their chosen field of study by alternating semesters between work and school.

The Sanderson Center

The Sanderson Center at Mississippi State University offers students a place to take group fitness classes, lift weights, grab a smoothie at Juva Juice or plan your next trip with Outdoor Adventure. The Sanderson has over 10,000 square feet of weight room space, holds cardio classes and has trainers available.

The intramural programs hosted by Recreational Sports in the Sanderson have a total participation count exceeding 28,000 each year. MSU offers a variety of activities for men's, women's, and co-recreational teams, plus numerous individual and dual sports. Intramural Sports are open to the entire university community (students, faculty, and staff). Part-time students, faculty, and staff must have a Sanderson Center membership in order to participate in indoor sports.

Chilifest 2014

Do you like chili? On Friday October 17th, the Junior Auxiliary of Starkville and MSU Student Association hosted Chilifest on Mississippi State University's campus. There was a chili tasting, activities for kids, and the TK Martin fun run. This year music was provided by Cowboy Mouth! The proceeds of this event benefit the local children of Oktibbeha County. Check out the Junior Auxiliary of Starkville's Facebook and MSU Student Association Twitter for the latest updates on campus & community events.
