Bulldog Bound Perspective - Rodgrick Anderson
Meet Rodgrick Anderson, a transfer student from East Central Community College. He wanted to study criminology because it pertained to his job as a law enforcement officer with Choctaw Wildlife and Parks Department. A MSU Bulldog fan, Rodgrick chose to attend MSU-Meridian since it was closer to his home.
One of the most interesting things Rodgrick learned through his criminology classes was how to use data and research to address issues in the criminal justice system. "The program made me perceive the criminal justice system in a different way than I had before," he noted.
Rodgrick said although there were numerous things he liked about the local university, if he could only choose one, it would be the instructors he had at MSU-Meridian.
"Although my instructors all had different teaching styles and personalities," he said, "they always were willing to help me if I had an issue on a topic or with a research paper."
Rodgrick advises future students to be "ready to learn and be prepared to write a lot of research papers." He also stressed they should "enjoy their time at MSU-Meridian and learn as much as they possibly can while they are here."
Major Insight - Criminology
The Bachelor of Arts in Criminology degree emphasizes the study of types, patterns, and trends in criminal behavior, and trains students to analyze crime data, test explanations of crime and victimization, and critically evaluate crime theory and policy.
The program is appropriate for students wishing to pursue career paths in all justice related fields including: law enforcement; probation and parole; community based prevention and control programs; court based programs; and corrections. Because MSU's criminology program provides for a broad knowledge of the nature and trends of crime and an understanding of crime control policy along with methodological and critical thinking skills, our students will be prepared to assume positions of leadership across a range of career paths in crime and justice related professions, as well as be prepared for post-graduate studies in Sociology, Criminology, and Law and Legal Studies.
Senior Internships are available as an elective at various crime and justice related agencies on the Starkville campus.
Campus Parking
All students who bring a vehicle on campus must register that vehicle with the university and must have a current MSU permit properly displayed on the vehicle, day or night.
At the MSU-Meridian College Park Campus students must park in the areas designated as Student Parking and will be ticketed for parking in Faculty/Staff/Visitor Parking. Parking at the Riley Campus is free of charge in the Meridian Arts District Parking Garage. Parking permits may be purchased in the MSU-Meridian Police office, inside the main entrance of the College Park Campus.
Starkville faculty, staff and students can register for a parking permit online at my.msstate.edu. Only one permit can be purchased online. Additional permits can be purchased at Parking Operations located on the second floor of the YMCA building. For more information on student parking visit http://www.parkingoperations.msstate.edu/pdf/parking_map.pdf.

How to get tagged:
Community College Freshmen - If you're bound for Mississippi State, go ahead and Get Tagged! There are 2 ways to become part of our Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) program.
If you were admitted to MSU as a freshman for Fall 2014 but decided to attend a community college first, just go back to apply.msstate.edu, log back in to your application and click the "TAG ME" button. Please tell us where you're attending community college and update your contact information as needed.
If you're in your first year of Community College but did NOT apply for admission to State as a freshman, you can still Get Tagged, too. Go to apply.msstate.edu and follow the directions to apply to the TAG program.
If you're a community college sophomore or a student planning to transfer from another 4-year institution, then the TAG program will not be the best fit for you. The traditional application for admission for Fall 2015 will be your best route.
