Bulldog Bound Perspective: Caleb Crenshaw

Caleb Crenshaw
Caleb Crenshaw

Caleb Crenshaw is from Philadelphia, MS. After graduating high school, Caleb went to the Golden Triangle campus of East Mississippi Community College before transferring to Mississippi State University to major in Building Construction Science. Caleb said, "I started out wanting to major in engineering or business so that led me to MSU." Building Construction Science (BCS) was something he discovered during his sophomore year at EMCC.

"Once I looked into the program, it was an easy choice. I have always wanted to have a career where I'm not doing the same thing every day, and a construction management career will provide a different challenge each and every day. Caleb said his favorite part of the BCS program is the Studio. "You do more than just sit and listen to lecture and leave. You have hands-on projects and group projects that make it seem like you are not in class."

Caleb loves the size of Starkville and thinks it is a great selling point for MSU. When asked what advice he would pass on to future MSU transfer students, Caleb said, "Don't come in and try to just ease by in each class. Study and stay caught up with assignments." This attitude has helped him be successful.

The Building Construction Science (BCS) degree program is one of just two studio-based construction programs in the nation. It is designed to prepare graduates for careers in construction or construction-related fields through an immersive, integrative, collaborative and transformational education.

Students have access to custom workstations designed by a graduate of Mississippi State University's Interior Design program and built by Building Construction Science student interns. These studios boast the latest in both technology and design. BCS students also go on numerous site visits and field trips throughout their four years of study in the program. Each year, the senior class visits a major metropolitan area, where they will see national construction sites and corporate construction offices.

The curriculum is interdisciplinary and provides a broad knowledge base in business, engineering, and construction sciences. Graduates will be able to manage both construction projects and also the business of construction. For more information about the Building Construction Science degree program please visit their website.
