How to be #BulldogBound

Applying for financial aid to attend Mississippi State University is just like applying for your community college except that you were able to begin submitting the FAFSA starting on October 1 this year.

You should also follow the same process as in previous years to apply for MTAG and MESG awards if you're a resident of Mississippi. Just be sure to list MSU as the school you're attending, and use MSU's federal school code: 002423. For more information visit sfa.msstate.edu.

Transfer Tracks Perspective: Molly McLeod

Meet Molly McLeod, a transfer student from East Mississippi Community College. After going to EMCC to play softball she transferred to MSU-Meridian to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. Molly chose this path because she feels that an active lifestyle can improve one’s quality of life.

She has enjoyed the opportunity to job shadow a physical therapy assistant at a nursing home. Because of this Molly said, “I decided after I graduate, I would like to work with the elderly either as a physical therapist or PTA.”

She also shared these encouraging words for future transfer students, “I’m grateful that Mississippi State has this program in my hometown. I have had a great experience so far and am excited for what’s to come!”

Major Insight: Kinesiology

ki.ne.si.ol.o.gy n . [Greek kinesis]: "the study of the principles of mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement."

Mississippi State University Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Education and is one of the university’s largest and most diverse programs. The Department of Kinesiology in Starkville offers four Bachelor of Science degree concentrations - clinical exercise physiology, health fitness studies, Physical Education and Coaching, and sport studies. For more information visit kinesiology.msstate.edu.

MSU-Meridian offers a Kinesiology degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology, a concentration of kinesiology that addresses a) the short-term biological responses to acute physical activity stress and b) how the body adapts to chronic bouts of physical activity stress.

Students planning to work in the non-clinical (i.e. corporate fitness), clinical (i.e. rehabilitation, occupational and physical therapy settings), as well as prepare for professional schools such as Medicine (physicians and surgeons), Dental, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Chiropractic and Physician Assistant programs should strongly consider this program. Jessica Lang Dance

Visit the MSU Riley Center on December 1st at 7:30 pm to see Jessica Lang Dance. After more than a decade as a highly sought-after freelance choreographer, Jessica Lang formed her own company in 2011. It has already become one of the country's most talked-about dance troupes, drawing rave reviews in major cities.

Lang, who studied at The Juilliard School, draws equally from ballet and modern dance, and choreographs to music by both classical and contemporary composers. She uses her dancers, scenery, video projections, and other design elements to create striking, ever-changing visual compositions. This is America's newest great dance company: expressive, energetic, and endlessly creative. For more information or to purchase tickets for the show visit msurileycenter.com.
