Student Spotlight: Kristen Greer

Meet Kristen Greer, a transfer student from Itawamba Community College. She has always had a gift for working with children. Kristen decided that a degree in Elementary Education would be the best way to utilize her gift. “I want to be able to teach children what they need to know in order to be successful in life.”

Before she transferred to MSU, Kristen came for a campus visit and was able to meet with the administrators and professors within the Elementary Education program. “I knew I found where I wanted to be, because I felt that the teachers genuinely cared about the success of their students.” Kristen feels the curriculum at MSU has helped prepare her to be able to educate students of all learning levels.

She encourages future transfer students to maintain a balanced life by working hard and making sure to take time out for relaxing with family and friends.

Elementary Education

The elementary education program is designed to prepare teacher candidates with the essential foundations for instructing children in grades K-8. Licensure at the undergraduate level requires students to declare either an early childhood or middle school concentration.

In addition to elementary licensure, candidates can also earn add-on endorsements in music, art, physical education, technology, and special education. The elementary education curriculum culminates in the teaching internship, a semester-long field experience in a public school setting.

Students have the option of enrolling in the program on the Starkville Campus, Meridian Campus, or online through The Center for Distance Education.

#ServiceatState: Service DAWGS Day

Sponsored for the eighth year by The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State, Service DAWGS Day is Monday, August 14, 2017 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Maroon Volunteer Center

The Maroon Volunteer Center (MVC) is a student-driven initiative that encourages and supports community involvement and volunteer service. Led by a team of students, staff, and volunteers, the center provides services, programs, and events that allow the MSU community to utilize their talents and skills while assisting others.

The MVC serves as a clearinghouse to match volunteers with community partners and service opportunities both on and off campus. They also support service based student organizations and events including Service DAWGS, Bulldogs on the Move, Bulldog Mentors, Alpha Phi Omega, and countless others. Finally, the MVC compliments the mission of Mississippi State University by building service and philanthropic partnerships with campus and community organizations.
