Student Spotlight: Jamie Cantey

Meet Jamie Cantey, a transfer student from East Central Community College. She chose Mississippi State because it provided her the opportunity to continue her education close to home with an ultimate goal of becoming a veterinarian.

Jamie chose to major in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture saying “it allows me to expand my knowledge and interests I have always had with wildlife, and gives me a more hands on approach than some other majors that provide a pre-veterinarian medicine concentration.” She has also been impressed by the conservation efforts of the department, “I find it truly amazing how much of this major is focused on efforts to conserve wildlife and wildlife habitats.”

One of Jamie’s favorite things about Mississippi State University is the light, relaxing atmosphere. “It feels like home.” She urges future transfer students to be brave, “MSU has many opportunities so don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, because you might end up finding something you truly enjoy.”
