Meet Ashley Ruzicka, a transfer student from Livermore, California. After attending Modesto Junior College in California, Ashley chose to come to Mississippi State because of her desire to major in Poultry Science since she was 12. “Out of the six colleges in the US that offer bachelor's degrees in poultry science, MSU was my choice because of the quality of their program and because of the lower cost and great scholarship opportunities.” Ashley was proud to share the major maintains a 100% job placement rate, and offers a lot of variety in career opportunities.

Her favorite thing about MSU is the sense of community and school spirit on campus. “At my junior college nobody knew the mascot or the school colors, here everyone wears maroon or MSU shirts all the time!” Ashley advises future transfer students to “talk to your adviser, even before you apply, talk to the department you want to be in so they know who you are”. She also encourages everyone to “apply for all the scholarships you possibly can”.

Major Insight: Poultry Science

The Department of Poultry Science at Mississippi State University is one of six poultry science degree granting departments remaining in the United States.
